NEW YEAR, NEW BEGINNINGS: Strategies to Embrace Life's Uncertainty
NEW YEAR, NEW BEGINNINGS
“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”
~ Semisonic, “Closing Time”
January 1 is your invitation—your calling to Begin again. And again. And again.
How many of us awoke yesterday morning with a renewed sense of hope, optimism, and possibility? How many awoke with a bounce in our step, as we shed the “failings” of the past year in favor of a new start? What if you and I realized that this shedding and renewing process is not reserved for one day out of the year, instead realizing that new beginnings are a day-by-day, moment-by-moment practice?
The Truth is simply this—Every new day is an opportunity to begin anew.
Some beginnings will be dramatic—a new job, a new relationship, birth, death, life after life. Some will be so subtle, we won’t realize they’ve begun. Some beginnings will start shrouded in mystery, the “end” unknown and unknowable. And some beginnings will simply mark the completion of the old beginning.
When you (and I) welcome a new beginning, simply know that it is always an adventure—an adventure into our ability to be okay with the unknown.
And you, my friend, are totally, completely, Okay.
It may not seem like it at the moment of new beginning. It may feel anything other than okay. It may feel like your world is falling apart—and that is in part correct…your old world is falling apart. To make space for the New.
Nothing ever stays the same. Everything in the universe remains in motion—from the largest of galaxies to the smallest of subatomic particles. Energy moves into form, through form and out of form. You and I are one with the Universe. Meaning, the elements, structures, and circumstances of our lives (and in fact, our very life itself) will remain constantly in motion (flux) and will move into form, through form and out of form. Have no fear—it is simply the nature of ALL things.
Knowing that every beginning is also an end grants you the power to relax and enjoy your life—to live in the Flow. You can simply relax into the joy, and sorrow, and love, frustration, and peace of the moments and experiences of your life knowing that they will, inevitably, move into a new moment. Beginning after beginning after beginning.
If you can get this—truly understand, embody and live this Truth—then beginnings and endings become one and the same. Then every new beginning can be welcomed with a sense of wonder, peace and joy.
